The National Democratic Party (NDP) stands as a symbol of resilience, justice, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Established on 5th June 2024, the party was founded with a clear vision, to provide Nigerians with a credible political platform built on integrity, inclusion, national development, and people centered leadership. NDP logo is Lantern and the Acronym is NDP.
Founded by Hon. Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori, A female politician from Benue state, Otukpo Local Government area, the NDP emerged at a time when many citizens desired a fresh political movement capable of restoring trust in governance and strengthening democratic participation across all levels of society. From inception, the party was structured to meet all legal and constitutional requirements for registration, demonstrating its seriousness, organizational capacity, and readiness to serve the Nigerian people.
Despite fulfilling all necessary conditions laid down by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party’s application for certification was denied on 10th December 2025. This moment, though challenging, became a defining chapter in the NDP story. Rather than surrender to injustice, Hon. Ada Fredrick who is the chairman and the chief Promoter of the party chose the path of law, constitutionalism, and democratic due process.
In defense of its rights, the NDP approached the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. On 16th February 2026, the court delivered a landmark judgment directing the electoral commission to issue the party’s certificate of registration. This judgment reaffirmed the supremacy of the rule of law and the constitutional rights of Nigerians to political association and participation.
Following the court’s decision, INEC complied and formally issued the NDP Certificate of Registration on 16th March 2026. With that historic milestone, the National Democratic Party officially gained full constitutional recognition and the legal right to operate as a political party in Nigeria.
Today, NDP is a fully registered political party in Nigeria bringing the total number of political parties to 22. NDP represents more than a political organization, it represents courage, and hope for the masses Its journey from formation to recognition is a testament to the belief that justice, when pursued with determination, will always prevail.
As the party continues to grow nationwide, the National Democratic Party remains committed to building a united, prosperous, and democratic Nigeria where leadership is accountable, opportunities are equal, and every citizen has a voice.
NDP — The Light of Hope.
